GLOSSARY

MACE

Also known as: Major adverse cardiovascular events

Composite endpoint of cardiovascular death, non-fatal myocardial infarction and non-fatal stroke used in outcome trials.

DEFINITION

MACE (major adverse cardiovascular events) is a composite trial endpoint most commonly defined as cardiovascular death, non-fatal myocardial infarction and non-fatal stroke, sometimes extended to include hospitalisation for unstable angina.

The Semaglutide SUSTAIN-6 and SELECT trials both used a MACE endpoint and reported significant reductions versus placebo in their respective populations. MACE is the standard trial currency for cardiovascular outcome comparisons across GLP-1 receptor agonists.

WHY IT MATTERS

MACE is the primary endpoint currency for interpreting Semaglutide's cardiovascular literature.
